I guess I identify myself with some of the characteristics from the polaroids ; mainly the irregularity in them. Also the thing about the moment, this instant when I press the camera button... It feels eternal. The physicality in it fascinates me ; It does feel like something else. In a digital world I like to hold on to what I can touch (what if, one day, electricity runs out – for some reason, hypothetically, whatever – and we’re no longer capable of accessing to everything we have that’s digital, right?).
I guess polaroids, these pics, are a lot like this song. It was a one take thing… I don’t know if it’s any good, but I know it does capture something I was feeling at that exact moment. To be honest, I can’t even tell you what it was. I just know I’m someone who feels stuff that surround myself.
These pics can either turn out shit or capture the light as the sunset hits buildings, and car glasses, and faces.
I don’t know if this « Polaroid 2.0 » makes that much sense, but I felt that guitar could do better with some company, so the rework came to life. I guess the essence is still there, even being with a bit more of a spacious vibe.
I know the remix made by my great friend Stairstep came to a song by his amazing creativity and amazing sense of composition based on instinct. He works a lot like that ; everyone has their one way of working, and Miguel is one hell of a producer. A great influence and work buddy. He won’t confirm it, but I know this remix turned out to be better than the original song.
The last thing I want to talk about regarding this Polaroid single is that these images have something that is really special to me:
they’re my vision. They’re my mental imagery coming to some kind of reality which can be expressed more objectively to others. Even not being a good photographer, it is my vision, my voice, my finger pressing the flash button. I still think that if irregularity doesn’t mark my work, I’ll never be listened to. No one knows what will happen.
Thanks to Miguel Esteves, for the remix, the partnership, the friendship; João Simões for the friendship and being in my living room, inspiring me when I first recorded the guitar; Giulia Sanità for the video and the permanent discussion of ideas.
Hope you enjoy,
Caco
